Mid-Century Adjustable Lamp

This distinctive mid-century adjustable floor lamp came to us from commercial client Christian Benes after the ball joint within its adjustable mechanism had failed, leaving the lamp unable to operate properly.

After carefully dismantling the necessary sections, we replaced the damaged ball joint and restored the movement and function of the adjustable mechanism. We also addressed damage to the metal framework, carefully re-polishing the affected areas to make the previous damage considerably less noticeable.

The original electrical components and cabling were then refitted before the lamp was reassembled, fully checked and returned to the client.

Gilt Panther Candelabras

These ornate gilt panther candelabras are part of my personal collection and hold a great deal of sentimental value.

They were given to me by a lady who played an important part in my early experience within the lighting industry. She gave me an opportunity, shared some of her knowledge with me and has sadly since passed away.

Rather than leave them as candelabras, I decided to convert them into fully functional table lamps while keeping their original character intact. Each was wired using a soft satin-gold braided cable, chosen to complement the gilt finish, and finished with carefully selected lampshades that suit the proportions and decorative style of the bases.

The completed pair now take pride of place on the reception desk in our workshop.

For me, this project is more than a lighting conversion. It is a reminder of the people who helped shape my experience and how a piece with personal history can be given a new purpose without losing what makes it special.

A small confession: I was so excited to convert them that I completely forgot to take any before photographs.

Empire-Style Crystal Basket Chandelier

This distinctive crystal basket chandelier came to us from a repeat customer in Kensington, who returned to us with two chandeliers requiring rewiring.

Because of the delicate glass leaves around the upper rim, several were carefully removed before transportation to reduce the risk of damage. Once in the workshop, the chandelier was thoroughly cleaned and fully rewired.

One of the main challenges was the cable routing. The underside of the fitting is relatively open, leaving very little space to conceal the wiring. The new cables therefore had to be carefully positioned and clipped in place so they remained as discreet as possible when viewed from below.

Once the rewiring was complete, the decorative glass leaves were refitted and the chandelier was prepared for return.

What I particularly like about this piece is the decorative detailing around the top. Empire-style crystal basket chandeliers often have a simpler upper band, whereas the glass leaves give this one a more distinctive and unusual finish.

The chandelier was returned to the customer, who was very pleased with the result.

Blue Ceramic Vase

This blue ceramic vase came to us from a returning customer after unfortunately being damaged during delivery.

Because of the nature of the damage, we recommended carefully refitting and securing the broken pieces rather than attempting to completely disguise the repair. At the same time, the customer decided to convert the vase into a functional table lamp, giving the piece a new purpose.

We carried out the conversion, fitted the necessary lamp components and finished it with a brown braided cable, chosen to complement the deep blue and cream tones of the vase.

The customer was very pleased with the finished result and left us a lovely review. They have since continued to use our services — always a good indication that we’ve done our job properly.

From sculpture to functional lighting

Sentimental Vintage Crystal Wall Lights

These distinctive ceramic pieces were handmade by a London-based artist, with real gold incorporated into the finish during the firing process. Our brief was to convert them into fully functional lamps while ensuring the original artwork remained the focus.

We designed and installed the electrical components using black braided cable, discreet torpedo switches and black plugs, chosen to sit quietly alongside the dark ceramic and gold detailing.

The brass lamp fittings were specially aged from their original bright finish to an antique brown brass, helping them blend naturally with the sculptures rather than looking like newly added components.

The finished result gives each piece a practical second purpose as a working lamp while preserving the character and integrity of the original artwork.

Sentimental Vintage Crystal Wall Lights

Sentimental Vintage Crystal Wall Lights

These vintage crystal wall lights came to us after spending many years in storage. They had originally belonged to the customer’s mother and, although in poor condition, carried enormous sentimental value.

Each fitting was carefully dismantled, with the individual crystal drops removed and deep cleaned. The metalwork was cleaned and polished before each crystal was carefully reassembled.

The lights were also fully rewired and the electrical components updated, allowing them to be safely brought back into use and meet current British electrical safety requirements.

The transformation was considerable, but what made this project particularly memorable was the customer’s reaction. After keeping her mother’s lights for so many years, seeing them cleaned, rewired and shining again was an emotional moment.

Flemish Chandelier

This Flemish chandelier came to us through Project U, who source distinctive lighting for their clients.

The chandelier required a full rewire, along with a repair to one damaged arm and a light clean. We also replaced the candle tubes and checked the fittings throughout to make sure everything was secure, safe and working correctly.

To finish the job, we fitted a braided cable chosen to complement the warm brass tones of the chandelier.

The aim was to retain the character of the original piece while carrying out the repairs and electrical work needed to bring it safely back into use.

Médoc Blue Glass Bottle

This large Médoc blue glass wine bottle was converted into a bespoke table lamp with two separate sources of light — one illuminating the bottle from within and a second positioned above it.

We designed the electrical configuration so that the two lights could be operated independently, allowing either light to be used on its own or both together.

Particular attention was given to the visible components. A braided cable was selected to complement the blue glass, adding to the finished design rather than appearing as an afterthought.

The bottle was then carefully converted, fitted with the necessary electrical components and fully tested on completion.

The finished piece retains the character of the original Médoc bottle while giving it an entirely new purpose as a distinctive and functional piece of lighting

Wall Lights — Plug In Conversion

The customer liked the wall lights themselves but felt the original cable was too plain and didn’t complement the design.

We recommended a mint-coloured braided cable to work with the soft blue finish of the shades, paired with white accessories, including the inline switch and plug, to keep the overall look clean and coordinated.

The lights were also adapted for plug-in use, making them a practical option where there is no dedicated wall-light electrical point. This can work particularly well for bedside lighting or other areas where a fixed electrical supply isn’t available.

Once completed, the lights were fully tested, carefully packed and returned to the customer.

A relatively simple change, but one that made a noticeable difference both visually and practically.

Murano Glass Chandelier

Large Cut-Crystal Globe Table Lamp

This striking Murano-style glass chandelier came to us after its owner moved to the UK from overseas. As the original wiring was not suitable for UK use, the chandelier needed to be carefully updated before it could be safely installed in its new home.

The fitting arrived dismantled, so each individual glass section was carefully inspected and thoroughly cleaned before reassembly.

During the process, we found that several of the glass arms had become loose within their sockets. These were carefully reset and secured to ensure they were properly supported.

The chandelier was then fully rewired with appropriate new electrical components, carefully reassembled and electrically tested for safe use in the UK.

The finished piece is particularly striking, with its clear decorative glass and blue floral detailing giving the chandelier real character, especially when illuminated.

Large Cut-Crystal Globe Table Lamp

Large Cut-Crystal Globe Table Lamp

This impressive cut-crystal globe table lamp came to us requiring a complete overhaul. Its unusually large, heavily cut glass body immediately stood out, with intricate detailing that deserved careful attention.

We fully stripped the lamp down, removing the old electrical components and cable. The crystal body was then deep cleaned by hand, using a small toothbrush to work into the individual cuts and recesses and remove years of accumulated dirt.

The metal base was rubbed down, prepared and primed before being refinished with a chrome-effect coating. We then carried out a full rewire and top conversion, finishing the lamp with carefully selected chrome accessories to complement the clear crystal.

The transformation was considerable. Once illuminated, the scale and detail of the crystal really came through, with the cut glass catching and reflecting the light beautifully.

The customer was delighted with the finished result and later left us a five-star Google review.

Floral Ceramic Lamp

Large Cut-Crystal Globe Table Lamp

This decorative floral ceramic lamp came to us after the customer had been experiencing a number of issues. The top fitting was loose, and the existing braided cable and electrical components were no longer suitable for continued use.

The aim was to update the electrics while retaining the lamp’s original character.

We securely refitted the top of the lamp and replaced the older electrical components, including the plug and bulky switch. The existing cable was replaced like for like with new braided cable, finished with clean white accessories to complement the colours of the ceramic body.

Once completed, the lamp was fully checked and safely brought back into use.

A good example of how an older or much-loved lamp does not always need dramatic changes — sometimes careful attention to the wiring, fittings and smaller details is all that is required.
